CipherOptics Changes Name to Certes Networks, Inc. and Outlines Plans to Secure Connectivity to Private and Public Clouds

--New Name Better Reflects Company's Focus and Markets--

Pittsburgh, PA, January 19, 2011- CipherOptics (the "Company"), today announced a company wide rebranding initiative with a new name and logo. The company also outlined its strategy for support of secure cloud connectivity, along with a data security plan for customers migrating from distributed networking to private clouds and ultimately to public cloud infrastructures.

"We are excited to announce our new name, Certes Networks," said Thomas Gill, the Company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Derived from the French and Latin words for truth, certainty, and assurance, the new name better reflects our commitment to providing the highest levels of data security without compromising network and application performance, and is better suited to the full breadth of the markets and technologies we support."

The Company also outlined its plans for providing a secure LAN extension from the data center to both public and private cloud infrastructures. Based on core technology from its industry recognized Group Encryption solution, CipherEngine, and its low latency multi-layer encryption appliances, the Company unveiled plans to support secure connectivity to the cloud with a virtual appliance that can secure data among virtual machines in the cloud. The solution will also enable a secure and transparent LAN extension to applications, databases and services in the data center. This capability will allow users to respond to peak demands by transparently migrating workloads from the data center to the cloud without creating security gaps at the cloud provider edge.

"Companies looking to take advantage of the cost and performance benefits of both private and public clouds are somewhat limited in what type of data they utilize within cloud environments," said Charles Kolodgy, Research Vice President, Security Products for IDC. "The availability of a security solution that is compatible with the virtual and elastic properties of cloud networking will help overcome one of the key hurdles to adoption of cloud infrastructures for regulated or sensitive data."

Extensive beta testing of the virtual appliance is planned for 2011. General release of the solution is planned for the second half of 2011. The Company believes its capability to support secure connectivity, bundled with a solution for secure and transparent migration from the data center to cloud-based Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), will align with broad market adoption of the technology and will help enable the use of regulated data in cloud-based virtual environments.

The company also announced the relocation of its headquarters to Pittsburgh, PA. The former headquarters location in Raleigh, NC will remain open, supporting engineering, operations and marketing functions.
